'Riding Home' - Cars & Country Workshop
We've been having a great time at Yarliyil doing something a little bit different. Instead of painting on canvas, Stan Brumby has been kind enough to donate car parts from his own back yard that the artists can clean, prepare and paint on.Using recycled materials with their own histories and memories that have come to be part of the Halls Creek landscape, the artists have begun to lay down their own stories of country directly onto these new surfaces. Though at first the artists found it a little daunting to figure out how to use these materials, I think the results speak to their excitement and enthusiasm. The artists' excitement started spreading across town, with extended family, residents and tourists all coming in for a look.

The 2012 Yarliyil & Basil Hall Editions Woodblock Prints and Silkscreen WorkshopMany thanks to Basil Hall and his assistant Sarah Fountain for running a successful printmaking workshop for the Yarliyil mob! The artists enjoyed seeing their designs presented in a new medium and many young people were interested in exploring the new art form. Please see the Products for Sale link on our website for the stunning results and make sure to check out Basil Hall Editions' webpage for more exciting and innovative printmaking projects - http://www.basilhalleditions.com.au/This workshop was made possible by the generosity of ANKAAA project funding and Mangkaja Arts

Biddy Timbinah - CGG Award for Excellence
“My Father’s Country”
A personal exploration of the artist’s family and land in the North of WA. Beautifully crafted with an innate use of colour and textures recreating the rhythms found in the geography of the land of her father – as seen from the bird’s eye perspective. This is a work of great sensitivity created with an honesty and passion rarely seen and even harder to master.
